Confident Conversations

Highly practical, and centred in participants' own experience, this interactive session explore the barriers to starting conversations on less familiar and more sensitive topics with colleagues. The session can focus on a particular area such as neurodiversity, disability, race or sexuality, or can simply be about difference. Participants get the opportunity, in a safe environment, to practise starting more confident conversations.

Who is it for?
Staff, colleagues and managers who want to be able to speak more confidently with colleagues from diverse backgrounds or with experience different from theirs. Result has run the training for Liverpool John Moores University in-person, focused on disability and for the Lancashire Constabulary online, focused on neurodiversity.

How many people is it for?
Up to 24 participants per group.

How does it work?
90 minutes of highly interactive, practical and person-centred work. It encourages each participant to consider their own experience of exclusion and how they can apply this.

How could it help you and your organisation?

  • Provides a focused, cost-effective way to open discussions of a wide range of potential barriers for managers and staff to honest, supportive communication.
  • Promotes psychological safety in your teams.
  • By using and encouraging use of the techniques introduced, it can promote stronger teamwork and openness, potential de-escalating causes of friction.

What is the impact?

‘A great workshop. All managers would benefit from attending.’

‘You cannot change the world in an hour and a half, but you can make a big difference!’

‘I like the part about being vulnerable opening a conversation. I like to ask people and openly will say “I don't know a lot” about whatever the subject is.’
